These Pictures Of Pregnant Meghan Markle Have Got People Talking About Her Beautiful Popped Belly

Prince Harry has never made a secret of his desire to have kids one day. And when he married former actress Meghan Markle in May 2018, it would only be a further five months until the couple announced her pregnancy. But as Meghan’s due date approaches, parents have developed a theory about the mom-to-be’s belly – and it’s a rather intriguing one at that.

It seems to be fair to say, too, that Harry is looking forward to being a dad. In a 2012 interview with ABC News, he explained, “I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young. So I’m waiting to find the right person – someone who’s willing to take on the job.”

And during a 2015 trip to New Zealand, Harry revealed that he wanted the process of parenthood to occur organically. “I don’t think you can force these things. It’ll happen when it’s gonna happen,” he said. “Of course I would love to have kids right now, but there’s a process that one has to go through.”

Then, in 2016 Harry met Meghan, a star of legal drama series Suits. A friend introduced the couple to each other in July 2016, and for several months the pair kept their fast-flourishing love a secret. However, rumors of their courtship were confirmed when the prince made an emotional public statement.

You see, when addressing perceived unfavorable treatment from the media in a November 2016 message, Harry referred to Meghan as his girlfriend. And speculation as to the seriousness of their relationship only increased when they were spotted buying a Christmas tree together.

The couple’s romance appeared to be going well into 2017, too. In May that year, Meghan attended a polo match with Harry; later that month, she also accompanied the prince to the wedding of Pippa Middleton, sister-in-law to Harry’s brother, Prince William.

The couple preferred, however, to keep the details of their relationship as quiet as they could. Of this, Meghan told Vanity Fair in September 2017, “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.”

Still, that desire for privacy didn’t stop the couple from making a very public showing at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada. Meghan’s mother, Doria, even joined them for the September 2017 event. Then, two months later, an announcement came that would solidify their relationship permanently.

Yes, on November 27, 2017, Meghan and Harry announced their engagement. And on that happy occasion, the prince chose to open up about some aspects of their romance. He told photographers at London’s Kensington Palace, for example, that he had realized that Meghan was “the one… [since] the very first time [they had] met.”

Then, during an interview with the BBC to coincide with the engagement news, Meghan and Harry both spoke freely about their relationship. And when the interviewer raised the idea of the couple starting a family, the prince was once again candid about his desire to be a father.

But there was, of course, the small matter of a wedding to take place first. And to much fanfare, the nuptials took place less than six months later, on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle – with millions around the world tuning in to watch the ceremony.

When Meghan married Harry, though, she may have recognized that she would have to make some changes. Prior to the wedding, she had often used her public status as an actress to address social issues; given the British royal family’s neutral stance on politics, however, she couldn’t now be as outspoken. Nevertheless, opportunities abounded for the American to spread her philanthropic wings.

In fact, Meghan had already attended numerous charity functions with Harry throughout their engagement. And after her wedding, the former actress became the fourth patron of The Royal Foundation, joining her husband and her in-laws the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the role.

Plus, it seems that humanitarian work is also hugely important to Harry. In this way, he appears to have taken his cues from his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who famously supported charities tackling causes such as HIV/AIDS and landmines during her lifetime.

Furthermore, for Meghan, a desire to see positive change in the world apparently bonded her and Harry during their first date. “It was one of the first things we connected on,” she told the BBC in November 2017. “One of the first things we started talking about when we met was the things that we wanted to do in the world and how passionate we were about seeing change.”

And even prior to the wedding, Meghan seemed to relish the prospect of doing good as the soon-to-be Duchess of Sussex. “I am very excited about that,” she continued to the BBC, while speaking about the idea of taking on charitable work alongside Harry in the future.

As Meghan explained, “I’m excited to really get to know more about the different communities [in the U.K.], and smaller organizations who are working on the same causes that I’ve always been passionate about.” And it wouldn’t take long after the wedding for her new duties to beckon.

Indeed, Harry and Meghan didn’t even embark on a honeymoon straight after tying the knot. Instead, on May 22, 2018, they attended an event to celebrate Harry’s father Charles’ 70th birthday. Then, in July, the newlyweds visited Dublin, Ireland, at the British government’s request.

And as Harry’s wife, Meghan has accompanied him on an overseas trip to Commonwealth nations as part of his work as a youth ambassador. It was on their first such outing as husband and wife, in fact, that the couple had a very exciting announcement to make.

In October 2018 the newlyweds were on a tour taking in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga. And just a few hours after the pair had arrived in Sydney, Australia, Kensington Palace would reveal all.

Yes, as many know, news came that Meghan is pregnant with her and Harry’s first child. Finally, then, the prince was to become the father he had for many years longed to be. But, of course, the happy revelation would mark the start of a fresh round of rumors about baby Sussex.

It’s perhaps understandable, too, that some have speculated on the impending arrival, as few details of the pregnancy have been confirmed – save for the fact that the baby is due in spring 2019. However, as Meghan has carried out her public duties, she and her husband have dropped a few hints along the way.

What we do know is that Harry and Meghan’s baby, when it arrives, will be seventh in the line of succession to the British monarchy. As the Queen’s eldest child, Prince Charles will succeed her, followed by Charles’ oldest, William. William’s three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, are next in line after that, followed by Harry and then his baby-to-be.

The expectant couple have also given the public a few tidbits about the pregnancy. In January 2019, for example, both Meghan and Harry explained to well-wishers in Birkenhead, England, that they don’t want to know the baby’s gender.

It was during that walkabout in Birkenhead, moreover, that Meghan spoke to local woman Kim Thompson. And Thompson had something to share. According to Hello! magazine, she revealed, “Meghan said [that] she is six months pregnant and due at the end of April [or the] beginning of May.”

And young Kitty Dudley also had the opportunity to meet Meghan during the same visit. Hello! reported that the St. Anne’s Catholic School pupil said, “I asked [Meghan] if she was having a girl or a boy, and she said she didn’t know.” That doesn’t mean, however, that Harry and his wife don’t have their own preferences as to the gender of their child.

That seems to have been demonstrated when the couple were on tour in Australia, where one well-wisher couldn’t resist having their say from the crowd. There, an unidentified fan yelled, “I hope it’s a girl!” To this, Harry simply responded, “So do I!”

In the absence of any further details, then, speculation surrounding Meghan’s pregnancy has continued to grow. Some people have even come up with a whole new theory of their own. And as parents themselves, they may be able to speak with some authority on the matter.

In particular, as Meghan’s pregnancy blossoms, some individuals have offered up the idea that there could be not one but two new royal babies on the way. And although that notion may seem outlandish on the surface, there is supposedly some proof to back up the theory of twins.

For starters, Meghan’s bump was already noticeable during the couple’s trip to Australia. According to the BBC, the duchess had already had her 12-week scan by the time that the pregnancy was announced. But as her due date is in spring 2019, some believe that it would have been too early at that time for Meghan’s baby bump to be so prominent if she is expecting only one child.

And according to the website BabyCentre, the odds of multiple births for moms over 35 are greater than for those younger than that age. This is not necessarily due to fertility treatments, either. As a woman gets older, she will produce more hormones during her menstrual cycle. This in turn increases the chance of releasing multiple eggs and so boosts the likelihood of a twin pregnancy.

But science isn’t the only factor supporting the theory: parents who have already welcomed twins have also added their voices to the speculation. “I’m going out on a limb here, guys,” NBC’s Keir Simmons told the Today show in December 2018. “I’m saying it’s twins.”

But has Simmons, himself the father of twins, spotted something about Meghan that others haven’t? His NBC colleague Lexi Rudolph thinks so. “The way she’s carrying – her belly sort of popped just like mine did [with my twin pregnancy],” she said.

Adding fuel to the speculation, mother of twins Rudolph offered another suggestion. She said, “It seems her and twin mom Amal Clooney seem to be talking quite a bit. Perhaps getting some advice?” Human rights barrister Clooney attended Meghan’s wedding with her husband, George; she had previously given birth to twins in June 2017.

And Today producer Minah Kathuria – herself a mom of twins – also weighed in on the debate. “I think time will tell as she gets into the later part of her pregnancy,” she said. “One versus two is different. I’ve had both, and by the end I looked like I was carrying two babies.”

It’s worth noting, though, that your age may be a factor in when your baby bump starts to show. Women having babies earlier in life may not show until later in their pregnancies owing to their stomach muscles being stronger. But for older moms, such as Meghan, pregnancies may be visible much sooner.

Genetics, too, apparently play a part in deciding when a pregnancy starts to show. And twin-carrying bumps still differ from person to person. Plus, Meghan’s isn’t the first royal pregnancy to be subject to such intense scrutiny.

For instance, Meghan’s sister-in-law Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, saw similar levels of speculation by the media when she was with child. According to Hello!, the press wondered whether she was expecting twins for each of her three pregnancies.

The magazine also asserted that the initial royal statement announcing Meghan’s pregnancy would likely have confirmed that she is expecting twins. But with Meghan and Harry revealing so little on the subject of their impending parenthood, could it be that they’re keeping not just the gender but the number of babies on the way a surprise?

And if Meghan does indeed give birth to two children, it would be a historic event for the royal family – which hasn’t seen a set of twins for nearly 600 years. As Today’s Minah Kathuria said, “Right now it’s all speculation based on her latest pic. But the palace hasn’t denied the rumors either. How cool would royal twins be?”
