For 25 loving years, James Bond star Pierce Brosnan and journalist Keely Shaye Smith have been a picture-perfect couple. A quarter of a century on from meeting her dream man, the writer shared a photo taken during the pair’s wedding. And the cute snapshot shows just how much the two have changed throughout the years.

On screen, Pierce Brosnan is famous for playing the debonair secret agent James Bond. But while his best-loved character – which he played between 1995 and 2002 – was something of a womanizer, the actor himself is fine with commitment. And since 2001, he’s been happily married to broadcaster and former model Keely Shaye Smith.

Although the couple have been married for nearly 20 years, Brosnan and Smith have actually been together a lot longer. In fact, the 66-year-old actor actually met his stunning partner 25 years ago. What’s more – since becoming acquainted with each other at a party in Mexico – the pair began dating shortly afterwards.

Like any great showbiz couple, the pair can regularly be seen attending each other’s events. In 2018, for example, Smith walked down the red carpet in London for the premiere of Brosnan’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Similarly, the actor posed with his wife and their children, Dylan and Paris, for the 2017 opening of Smith’s film Poisoning Paradise.

When the couple are not attending Hollywood premieres, however, they also work together to make the world a better place. Over the course of their relationship, Brosnan and Smith have been involved with charities including UNICEF and the Red Cross. In addition, they’ve also taken a stance against the impact of U.S. Navy technology on marine life.

Of course, Brosnan and Smith look absolutely stunning after two-and-a-half decades together. But what were they like in the early years of their relationship? More importantly, how did this pair even hook up in the first place? Well, weirdly enough, the couple have a celebrity to thank for their first encounter ‒ one Ted Danson.

After starting out as an actress and model, Smith transitioned into a new role as a reporter and journalist in the early 1990s. And during an assignment interviewing the Cheers star in 1994, the broadcaster found herself at a party. It was here that she first met her husband-to-be.

As soon as the pair locked eyes, Smith fell completely head over heels. “[Brosnan] was captivating,” the writer explained to People magazine in 2001. “Tall, dark and handsome – everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to. He had this mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, ‘Wow! Wow!’”

Naturally, it’s easy to see why Smith was so drawn to the dashing Brosnan. At 41-years-old, the actor still had the boyish good looks he had become known for through the TV series Remington Steele. Moreover, his celebrity would soon reach global levels, as within a year the actor would make his James Bond debut.

Luckily, the feeling was mutual and soon the actor was arranging to take Smith out on a date. A few days later, the pair spent a romantic evening together that ended with them talking underneath the stars until the early morning. “I understand why women find him sexy, because he is an appealing man,” said Smith. “He really likes and appreciates women.”

For Smith, it may have seemed like dating Brosnan was an easy fit. However, the actor himself was wary about getting into a relationship. Before meeting his current wife, he’d married Cassandra Harris, a woman who had a great influence on his budding career. A performer herself, Harris was the one who convinced the future star to pursue a career in Hollywood.

Tragically, Harris – who had been Brosnan’s partner for 17 years – wouldn’t see her husband shoot to international fame. After developing ovarian cancer in 1987, she passed away four years later at the age of 43. In her absence, a grieving Brosnan – who became the sole parent to their children Sean, Chris and Charlotte – vowed never to remarry.

During an interview with The Daily Mail in 2013, Brosnan explained just how deep Harris’ death had hit. “Such things draw a mark across your heart and it’s always a part of your life,” the star revealed. “To watch someone you love have their life eaten away… [It] becomes an indelible part of your psyche.”

By Brosnan’s own admission, he was lost when he met Smith. And yet through her, the actor found someone with whom he could finally let go of the past. “Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie,” he confessed years later. “I suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me.”

Within a year, Brosnan began work on Goldeneye his first Bond film . And though the 1995 espionage flick took the Irish star all around the world – from Puerto Rico to Russia and Monaco – he still couldn’t get Smith off his mind. So much so, in fact, that the actor went to great lengths to have her by his side.

Speaking to People magazine in 2001, Brosnan revealed that he’d arrange for Smith to come visit him on shooting locations and promotional tours. “Wherever I went in the world I missed her. I’d send her tickets to come so we would be together,” the actor confessed. “We just seemed to fit.”

Clearly, the pair knew that they were a perfect match for each other. And it didn’t take them long to decide to take their relationship to the next level. Indeed, just three years after their first encounter, the couple became parents in 1997, with the birth of their first child, Dylan. Four years later, Dylan became a big brother when Paris came into the world in 2001.

That same year, Brosnan and Smith took another giant step in their relationship. After seven years of dating, the two tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in County Mayo, Ireland. Not only was this an important step in the pair’s journey together, but it was also a turning point for the actor who ten years previously had sworn off ever marrying again.

While stopping by Live! with Regis and Kelly in 2002, Brosnan dished on the details. “It was the best wedding I’ve ever been to,” he said of the 120 guest event. “It started really small… But then we said, ‘Let’s go to Ireland.’ And being Irish, when we hit on Ireland, [then] we’re off to the races, so to speak.”

Clearly, the pain of losing a loved one is hard to forget. But Brosnan – through Smith – had found someone who helped him heal. “I know what it’s like to be a widower and what it’s like to find love again,” the actor told The Daily Mail. “So I know there’s hope and that you have to learn to get on with it.”

Moreover, the couple’s harmony left those closest to them with tears of joy in their eyes. “Just seeing the ultimate love that these two people have for each other was unbelievable,” Brosnan’s daughter Charlotte told People magazine. “My dad found it again, and that makes me happy.”

Nearly 20 years on from their big day, Brosnan and Smith have obviously changed quite a bit. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the bond the two have with each other. Now in their mid-60s and mid-50s respectively, the pair are still just as in love. And the proof can be seen in their Instagram accounts.

Throughout each other’s social media pages, both Brosnan and Smith regularly share images of their lives together. From snaps of their sun-kissed vacations to blissful selfies, the pair can’t get enough of showing their adoration for each other online. What’s more, we’re hooked on seeing how cute this couple truly is.

Of course, the pair are great at keeping fans updated about their current activities. But for all the posts about their present, however, the couple are just as keen on sharing the odd throwback photo, too. And this was especially true when Brosnan and Smith reached a particular milestone in the summer of 2019.

For the couple, August 2019 marked their 18th anniversary as man and wife. And to commemorate the occasion, Smith posted a very special photo via Instagram. Taken on the day of their wedding, the photo sees the two as they were almost 20 years earlier locked in an embrace and smiling giddily for the camera.

Like a relic from a time capsule, Smith’s photo is a snapshot of the way things used to be. When compared with other pictures of the couple in the present, the throwback shows us just how much time has altered the pair. But, happily, we can say that they both look just as stunning as ever.

Firstly, Brosnan has matured remarkably well since the photo was taken. Now sporting a headful of gray hair and the occasional beard, he’s still just as charming as he always was. Indeed, it’s not for nothing that the star was recently voted one of the showbiz’s best-aged celebs by users of FOREO.

Despite still looking like a matinee idol, Brosnan himself has no secret to ageing so well. During a 2018 chat with GQ magazine, however, he seemed to give Smith partial credit for helping him stay youthful. “Work and love. That’s all it is really,” the star explained. “Be grateful that you have a partnership, or a friendship or a few friends. And just get on with life. I don’t know any other way.”

As for Brosnan’s wife, Smith has also taken to her mid-life years with grace and poise. Unlike her silver fox husband, though, the journalist doesn’t have a single grey hair on her head and still shows off the colors of her 30s. Moreover, her smile is just as infectious as 20 years ago and her eyes still shimmer with youthful energy.

Certainly, Smith is every bit as stunning now as she was in the early 2000s. But the broadcaster has changed a lot from the person she was on the day of her wedding. Indeed, since this photo was taken, the journalist’s body has transformed from a slender look to a curvier form.

Like many women who have gone through childbirth, Smith began to see a change in her figure with the arrival of her first son. In the intervening years, the journalist’s size would continue to fluctuate. Nevertheless, a steady regime of diet and exercise has allowed her to maintain a healthy weight in recent times.

Sadly, Smith’s changing figure over the years prompted cruel responses from some corners of the internet. For example, after pictures of the journalist showing off her beach body while on holiday appeared in 2008, some sites ran unflattering headlines. Nevertheless, the writer has refused to let the hate get to her.

During a chat with Vogue magazine in 2006, Smith revealed just how confident she is in her own skin. “I never shy away from color or my curves,” the broadcaster intoned. “I like to play up my neckline or my shoulders. If a jacket is pulling in the bust, I might just move the button an inch. But I never hide in baggy clothing.”

Moreover, Smith’s attitudes to her own figure were applauded and appreciated by many in the entertainment industry. “I think it’s great that she is proud of her body,” commented InTouch Weekly magazine senior editor S. Tia Brown to ABC News in 2008. “To be in a photo in a bikini in your 40s and not be petite, speaks to her confidence.”

Clearly, Smith has many admirers. But there’s one person who still can’t get enough of the writer’s shape. “I love my wife’s curves,” Brosnan gushed to Vogue magazine in 2008. Six years later, the actor told Meins magazine that their attraction was still as strong as ever. “When Keely looks at me, I go weak,” he said.

As soon as Smith posted the nostalgic photo, she received a wealth of warm responses from fans around the globe. And among the many replies of congratulations the picture got, there were also remarks about how good the pair still look together. “Beautiful,” plainly wrote user julesgarcia22 via Instagram. “Then and now.”

Meanwhile, there were a flood of responses from those who took great comfort in the pair’s continually loving relationship. “Your union has been a success story on many levels,” gushed rpreagin on the social media platform. “Your devotion to each other is such a great example for all of us.”

Brosnan himself didn’t post a throwback picture for this anniversary. But he nevertheless commemorated another special occasion the year before. In 2018, he and Smith celebrated a quarter of a century as a couple which the actor paid tribute to with a flashback photo of his own. “Thank you for the love, my love of these past 25 years onwards,” the star wrote on Instagram.

As for the secret of the couple’s long-lasting attraction, it seems that all they need is each other’s company. “My wife and I took a short trip up to Santa Barbara,” Brosnan told People magazine in 2017. “We didn’t listen to any music, we just listened to the sounds of each other’s voices and sorted out the world.”

For our money, this couple’s love looks like it’s only going to grow bigger with time. “[My husband] is intelligent, captivating and his real beauty emanates from the soul,” Smith told People magazine. “And, like a fine wine, he’s aging beautifully.” Brosnan, meanwhile, had a more unequivocal summation of their relationship: “I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good.”
